HEPA Filters:
Most viruses are below 0.3 micron in size. By itself, they can easily "swim" through even the best of filters...the HEPA filters. Most HEPA filters are designed and manufactured with a maximum efficiency of up to 0.3 micron in size. Technically, HEPA filters can hardly trap viruses. Similarly, face masks which can hardly use the small material as HEPA filters (can hardly breathe because of high pressure differential) would not be able to trap viruses.
Even in the case where viruses travels in the medium of saliva / water droplets, it would be a matter of time before such droplets evaporates and these viruses "swims" though any such filtration media thereafter.
Potential Hazards: In the scenario that these viruses finds a host bacteria or fungus that are already trapped in HEPA filters or any other filters, there is a worst potential threat. All Germitrol Air Sterilizers do not produce harmful ozone.
In fact, in a test (UL letter dated 14 July 1995) conducted by the Underwriters Laboratory of United States of America (UL37.5), where G200S & G100S were subjected to 24 hours accumulative tests, the result recorded was 0.00ppm. That is...NIL ! The National University of Singapore had also conducted ozone tests and found that there was no ozone emitted. Ozone levels below the permissible limits of 0.05ppm itself may find the germ killing efficacy affected. Yet, any more than the 0.05ppm becomes harmful to people.
